I suppose what got me into Bluegrass, like many others my age or rather inclination, was being a Deadhead and following Jerry Garcia and his goings on with Old and In the Way. Originally I found more traditional Bluegrass via Peter Rowan and attended many traditional bluegrass festivals in Ohio and Kentucky. But I quickly gravitated to the Jamgrass scene although I still appreciate both. First it was Sam Bush, Bela and his Bluegrass Sessions, then Leftover Salmon,YMSB and lately Railroad Earth and Cornmeal. I've seen the Incredible Stringdusters a few times and they are indeed incredible.....the Steep Canyon Rangers are more on the traditional side but driving nonetheless. And Del and JD Crowe are legends.....I've seen Del maybe a dozen times over the decades and it is always a stellar show even saw his tour with Steve Earle....if he came more to Ohio I'd see him more!! Well what I really wanted to blog about is I've been to alot of festivals small and large....from NOLA Jazzfest....to Allgood...to Magnoliafest...to Dunegrass...Memphis in May.....King Biscuit Blues fest and hundreds of mid size and smaller fests but I don't think I've seen a line-up more suited to my tastes than this one. I know these late night sets will be legendary...pickin to sunrise....many memories to cherish, the price is reasonable and I know the McCoury's and High Sierra will put on a top notch production.....part of me wishes to keep this fest a little secret and maybe because it is held over memorial day when so much else and other fests are going on and it will maintain a smaller homey vibe. I also get to see acts that I have'nt seen live yet such as Old Crow and Ollabelle and bands I've only seen once such as Crooked Still and JD Crowe....and I'll even be able to satisfy the lingering deadhead in me and wash it down with some Cornmeal latenight style!!!!!! Peace and Blessings Y'all.......
